Simmer the dates with the water and lemon juice for 10 minutes until thick and spreadable, then cool.

Rub the butter into the oats, flour, sugar and baking soda until crumbly.

Press half firmly into a lined tin.

Scatter the remaining crumble on top and press lightly.
