Instructions
- 1
Melt the butter in a wide skillet over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt until bubbling.
- 2
Place the bananas cut side down in the skillet. Cook for 2 minutes, then turn them over.
- 3
Pour in the banana liqueur. Let it simmer gently for 1 minute.
- 4
Take the skillet off the heat and add the rum. Put it back on the burner and carefully light it with a long lighter.
- 5
Let the flames burn out on their own. Spoon the sauce over the bananas while they cook.
- 6
Spoon the bananas and hot sauce over scoops of vanilla ice cream. Serve immediately.
Chef's tips
Take the skillet off the burner before adding rum. Never pour liquor straight from the bottle into a hot pan over a flame.
Storage
Serve immediately; the sauce keeps 3 days refrigerated without the bananas.
Reheating
Rewarm the sauce and add freshly cut bananas.
Common mistakes to avoid
- โขUsing bananas that are too ripe and turn mushy in the pan.
- โขPouring rum directly from the bottle over an open flame.
- โขCooking the bananas for too long until they fall apart.
