Preheat the oven to 190ยฐC and grease a baking sheet.

Whisk the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar together in a large bowl.

Cut the lard into the dry ingredients until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.

Stir in the warm water just until a soft dough forms; do not overmix.

Shape the dough into a round loaf about 3 cm thick and place on the sheet.

Bake for 25 minutes until golden and a skewer comes out clean.

Brush the top with butter while warm and let cool slightly before slicing.
