Instructions
- 1
Rinse the chira (flattened rice) quickly in water. Let it soften for a couple of minutes, then drain any extra water.
- 2
Place the softened chira and puffed muri (puffed rice) side by side on a large thali (serving platter).
- 3
Put the curd (yogurt) or milk into a small bowl next to the rice.
- 4
Add the jaggery pieces and banana slices onto the platter.
- 5
Spoon a little cream on top of the curd if you are using it.
- 6
Let everyone mix their chira or muri with curd or milk, jaggery, and banana to their taste at the table.
- 7
Serve right away so the chira stays fresh and does not turn soggy.
Chef's tips
Do not soak the chira for too long or it will turn mushy. A quick rinse is enough because it softens more once mixed with curd or milk.
Ingredient substitutions
- curd → cold milk
Storage
Best assembled fresh and eaten immediately.
Reheating
Not applicable; served cold or at room temperature.
Common mistakes to avoid
- •Soaking the chira for too long, which makes the texture pasty.
