Instructions
- 1
Pour the grape juice into a large saucepan. Stir in the sugar.
- 2
Bring the juice to a gentle boil over medium heat on your stovetop.
- 3
Meanwhile, stir the flour, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl.
- 4
Mix in the water or milk until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
- 5
Drop tablespoon-sized scoops of dough straight into the simmering juice.
- 6
Cover with a lid and simmer for 12-15 minutes without opening.
- 7
Cut one dumpling open to check it. It should be cooked through and not doughy.
- 8
Spoon the warm dumplings into bowls with plenty of the hot grape syrup.
Chef's tips
Do not lift the lid while cooking so the dumplings steam properly. Use a good dark grape juice for rich flavor.
Storage
Refrigerate in the juice for up to 3 days.
Reheating
Reheat gently on the stovetop over low heat.
Common mistakes to avoid
- โขMaking the dough too wet, which causes the dumplings to dissolve in the liquid
- โขLifting the lid too often, which leaves the dumpling centers raw
