Instructions

    Put a julep cup or glass in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to chill.

    Press mint leaves gently in the bottom of the cup with simple syrup. Do not tear them.

    Fill the cup with crushed ice.

  4. 4

    Pour bourbon over the ice.

  5. 5

    Stir gently until the outside of the cup turns frosty.

    Add more crushed ice on top if needed. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig.

Chef's tips

Chill the julep cup in the freezer beforehand so it frosts over quickly. Press the mint gently instead of crushing it hard to avoid a bitter taste.
