Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 325Β°F. Place the ham in a roasting pan.

  2. 2

Press the cloves into the ham, if you are using them.

  3. 3

Whisk the Vernors, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard together to make the glaze.

  4. 4

Pour half of the glaze over the ham. Cover the pan loosely with foil.

  5. 5

Bake for about 1.5 hours until warmed through, spooning juices over the ham every 20 minutes.

  6. 6

Remove the foil for the last 20 minutes. Brush with the remaining glaze so it browns nicely.

  7. 7

Let the ham rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with orange slices.

Chef's tips

Spoon the pan juices over the ham often to build a thick, sticky glaze. Do not skip baking it uncovered at the end so it browns well. Check that fully precooked ham reaches 140Β°F with a meat thermometer.

Storage

Refrigerate leftovers up to 4 days.

Reheating

Reheat slices gently covered in a 300Β°F oven with a spoonful of pan juices.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • β€’Not spooning the pan juices over the ham often enough, leaving a thin glaze.
  • β€’Baking a fully precooked ham for too long, which dries the meat out.

Serving suggestions

Serve with mashed rutabaga or warm scalloped potatoes.Pair with a glass of Michigan hard cider.
