Instructions

  1. 1

If your pitted dates are firm, soak them in warm water for 10 minutes. Drain them well.

  2. 2

Add the dates, ice cream, and milk to a blender.

  3. 3

Blend on high speed for about 1 minute until completely smooth and creamy.

  4. 4

Add the vanilla extract. Blend briefly just to mix it in.

  5. 5

Taste the shake. Add a touch more milk if it is too thick to pour.

  6. 6

Pour the shake into tall glasses.

  7. 7

Top with whipped cream if you like.

  8. 8

Serve right away with a straw and a spoon.

Chef's tips

Soft, fresh Medjool dates blend much smoother than dry dates. Chill your glasses in the freezer beforehand to keep the shake colder longer.

Storage

Best consumed immediately; does not store well once blended.

Reheating

Not applicable; served cold only.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • โ€ขUsing dry dates without soaking them, which leaves hard chunks in the shake
  • โ€ขBlending for too long until the shake melts and becomes too runny

Serving suggestions
