Instructions

    Boil water with salt and stir in rice flour to make a thick dough. Cover for 5 minutes, then knead smooth.

    Coarsely mash the boiled chana dal (split chickpeas).

    Heat mustard oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, garlic and green chilli, then fry until fragrant.

    Add the mashed dal and salt. Cook for a few minutes until you have a dry filling.

    Divide the rice dough into small balls. Flatten each ball into a disc.

    Place a spoonful of filling in the centre. Fold into a half-moon shape and press the edges to seal.

    Arrange the dumplings on an oiled steamer plate.

    Steam for 12-15 minutes until the dough turns glossy and firm.

    Serve hot with chutney.
